The book gives the methods and explanation of 195 sutras. This information of sage Patanjali helped the history of yoga to reach a higher position and to create a milestone. The text in that book is short and simple so that all can read and memorize it. Even if the text is small, the meaning for it is enormous. Though it is brief, the sutras influence the practice of current yoga just like the methods of early days. The sutras are chaptered into four which are called Padas. These Padas are still more classified and simplified for the purpose of easy understanding and practicing. Yoga should be practiced in proper way, as otherwise complications would occur.

These sutras help as a guide for learning yoga in the proper method. Yogas are not only practiced for improvement of health, but also for spiritual growth. Yoga is a very ancient art of spirituality. The inception of yoga is unknown. It is believed that it has been rooted before BC.
